A DISAPPOINTING 2016 season has closed with a victory for Port Adelaide, which delivered exiting forward Jay Schulz a fitting farewell.

The Power’s class prevailed after a lacklustre opening quarter, although the Suns’ inability to execute in attack let the visitors off the hook throughout the night.

Gold Coast surged in the third term with a five-goal burst closing the Power’s lead to 15 at the final change after trailing by 21 at half time.

But when Will Snelling reopened that lead with his debut AFL goal, the Power appeared to be home safe.

Port’s uninspiring win was a grind – too often did poor disposal and turnovers heading into attack undo their chances.

And yet the Suns finished their possession control with behinds – keeping the Power in front, despite their superiority with the football.

Robbie Gray starred for the Power with his four goals and over 30 disposals capping another solid year from the dual All-Australian.

Schulz booted three in his final game as a Port Adelaide player.
