YOU might not know it, but one of Adelaide’s most loved singer-songwriters is also a fully-fledged Port Adelaide ambassador.

Rachael Leahcar first rose to prominence on The Voice and is well-known for her work as an ambassador for the Royal Society for the Blind, having lived with Retinitis Pigmentosa since birth.

But her ambassadorship for the Power should come as no surprise - she was supporting the club from her earliest days.

Having attended many Magpies games as a child with her father Greg – who sponsors the club through his business Greg Bartholemew Installations – Leahcar said it was only natural to become an ambassador for the club.

“I’ve grown up with a huge supporter in the family,” Leahcar says.

“It’s such a great club and it’s so great to be part of the energy, I’ve been going with my father since I was a little kid.

“I was so excited to get involved, even though I couldn’t see anything - I’d always get hot chips and when people would cheer, I would cheer.”

As an eight-year old, Leahcar remembers taking her Port Adelaide merchandise to a school ‘show and tell’ and encouraging her class to sing along to the team song with her.

“All the Crows supporters booed,” she laughs.

Retinitis Pigmentosa has left her with less than 10 per cent of her vision, but her vision impairment hasn’t held her back.

“I try and make the most out of life and the Royal Society for the Blind has helped me so much with that,” she said.

“I want to raise awareness about how to treat people with a vision impairment, as there’s a lot of little things that people can do to help.”

After appearing on the first season of The Voice Australia, Leahcar took the world by storm, performing for audiences around Australia and overseas.

She has since released three top 10 ARIA charting albums since 2012 and toured a cabaret show in 2015 called ‘Colours of My Life’.

At the moment Leahcar is working on her new album, which will feature her original music.

Before its release, she will be performing at a major event at the Croatian Sports Centre – ‘Christmas in July with Rachael Leahcar’ on July 30, which will raise money for the Little Heroes Foundation.
